St Mary's Poppy Drop

Every Year the volunteers of St Mary's Churchyard Action Group clear the graves of, and family memorials to, those who have served in the Armed Forces of any Nation in any conflict. By Remembrance Sunday each year each then receives a RBL Wooden Cross with a poppy. The poppies are kindly funded by Prestwich Remembers and are blessed by the church.

The List currently stands as 145 ex-service men and women, including Northern Irish and Canadian soldiers, a Waterloo Veteran, two Chelsea Pensioners and Navy and Airforce Personnel. We also remember a Senior Navy Nurse and a civilian who served with the Auxiliary Fire Service during the Manchester "Blitz" of 1940.

The Volunteers meet at 9am on Tuesday Mornings - all year round.

In some cases the individual commemorated is also mentioned a Roll of Honour elsewhere, or is memorialised at, or buried in, family plots elsewhere.
